Let's Pray For President Corazon C. Aquino

Former President Corazon C. Aquino has been positively diagnosed to be suffering from cancer of the colon, her children, Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III and television host Kris Aquino-Yap, announced yesterday.
Kris and Noynoy asked for prayers, saying these had always been their mother’s strength during difficult and trying times.
They also appealed for understanding for their mother’s condition and privacy for her and the family, although Kris noted that it was her mother’s wish to be "upfront" to the people about her health.
The country’s acknowledged icon of democracy turned 75 last Jan. 25 and appeared to be in the pink of health then. She had suffered from an incidence of high blood pressure last Dec. 24 and had to be rushed to the emergency room of Medical City.
At that time, she was not confined but stayed in the hospital for several hours under observation under the care of Dr. Alran Bengzon.
She was given medication for her blood pressure and she continued her regular schedule including attending the round of masses for the Search for Truth. One of the activities she went to last month was the 109th anniversary of the Manila Bulletin and weeks later, presided over the awarding of the 19th Aquino Fellowship Awards at the US Embassy.
Then she herself, as well as her daughters, noticed her rapid loss of weight (some 10 pounds), her shortness of breath and loss of appetite over the past weeks. According to family members, Mrs. Aquino agreed to undergo a round of tests early this month to find out what could be wrong.
A week before Holy Week, the tests showed colon cancer, an illness that her mother also suffered. Mrs. Aquino is said to have taken the news with her usual fortitude and grace. All her children, from Noynoy to Ballsy Cruz, Pinky Abellada, Viel Dee, and Kris Yap, together with former cabinet members and close friends, rallied around Mrs. Aquino.
Prayers, novenas, messages of support, and masses for Mrs. Aquino’s recovery have started to pour in from concerned citizens since the news broke out. Her last public appearance was at an Easter mass which was also for the Search for Truth for the National Broadband Network-ZTE controversy at the St. Joseph Church in Quezon City.
Although she has expressed her willingness to still be present at other Search for Truth masses, it is not yet known whether her chemotherapy sessions, which began yesterday, will allow her to immediately return to her normal schedule.qui
