Editorial:The Sinking Ship

With the continuing degradation of Philippine peso and the endless crisis in peace and order situation, poverty and employment, it is very difficult to judge the Arroyo administration. Had she been a good president? Were her programs good enough to change the political scene from the rotten and corrupt government to a just and fair one?
The answer to our worries is right before our very eyes. Political and economic instability, peace and order, urgency unemployment, and livelihood crisis conforms the Arroyo administration. It’s like that we are a sinking ship in the middle of the roaring sea. And the worst of all, the captain of the ship does not admit this.
Foreign investors are starting to pull out and the value of our peso is plunging deeper. But still the Arroyo government doesn’t have the guts to affirm this. They still said that the economic state is fine.
It has been almost 30 years since President Marcos proclaimed Martial Law. This wicked past was restated by Estrada regime. Then, come President GMA and her company to the rescue. They came with that bunch of promises for the Filipino people. Where are those promises? Are they gone too blind with that power they even forget their promises?
Should we always remain as the “Sick-Man of Asia”? Is there any hope left for us? We have the capacity to change our way of life. We should not be appeased of our present condition. We should act now. The roots of corruption must be pulled out? Our statements may seem to be impossible but we are trying and struggling for our future. We don’t need any promises in order to keep our ship in a calm and stable state. All we need is a major reconstruction in all the systems of our country. And we need it before we start life jackets.
